I think we can all agree that if you want to change your results, you must change your strategy and activities, right? But if it's as simple as that, why doesn't everyone do it? I know an awful lot of agents out there who are NOT happy with their results. I think it's because they are lacking the "magic pill".
So, what's the magic pill? You're not going to like my answer. To a lot of people, the answer is similar to a four letter word! They don't want to hear it! Nope, no thank you - I'll just keep banging my head against this wall doing the same things I've always done and getting the same results I've always gotten.
The magic pill is accountability ("click", you've probably just moved on to another, friendlier blog). For you brave souls still reading, I'll explain.
Growing and improving is painful! They say "you're either green and growing, or you're ripe and rotting". I'd rather be green and growing thank you very much. I also know that things that worked before, won't work in this market. We have to change and shift with the market. So....we must get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Being uncomfortable is the biggest reason we don't change.
Accountability can be the push we need to make change. I think of it like this. When I'm sitting down with someone and asking them what dollar productive activities they've focused on the week before, and they admit they didn't hit any of their goals, I ask them how they feel. No one ever feels "fine". Most people are highly conscientious and end up feeling really bad about themselves. They are far harder on themselves than they should be. But when I talk to someone who has hit their goals for the week and was able to focus on their dollar productive activities, they always feel GREAT! Who are the ones hitting their goals? They are the people who regularly have accountability meetings. The accountability meeting is the push they need. Those that don't hit their goals are usually new to accountability, or not willing to be held accountable. So how can accountability be a bad thing when it makes people feel great? It's not a bad thing.
Do you have accountability in your business? It's very difficult to hold yourself accountable to tough goals. I recommend getting a Success Partner (sounds better than an accountability partner, eh?). Some people may be more disciplined or have awesome focus, but no one can successfully hold themselves accountable in the long run. According to The Millionaire Real Estate Agent book written by Gary Keller with Dave Jenks and Jay Papasan, you need to bring and share your goals worksheet, an accounting of your business plans and activities, and an accurate summary of the results you have achieved to date. You've got to avoid rationalizations and hiding places and just deal with your actions and results. (page 301) That's a great point because I ask you, how accountable can we be without a plan?
Let me know what you think!

Accountability really is the key. When you're uncomfortable, you're learning... you're growing. I'd rather be green and growing too. :)
